Isle of Skye North Country Cheviots is situated in the Alberta foothills of the Rocky Mountains, by Caroline, Alberta. Our family has been in the livestock business for over 100 years. We are a family farm operation dedicated to raising a commercial cattle herd, traditional Border Collies and our highly prized North Country Cheviot Flock. You can find us on Facebook
Our Cheviot flock is named after the beautiful Isle of Skye in Scotland, and are direct descendants of the Queen Mother’s Longoe flock. You you will find the same quality in our North Country Cheviots as the Queen Mother found in her flock. Quality, consistency, with prolificy, and strong maternal qualities. Health and Quality
Our flock was started many years ago with proven closed flocks of sheep from leading Canadian traditional North Country Cheviot Breeders.
Our Focus is on maintaining a clean closed flock with high health standards. We carefully select our breeding rams from other clean closed flocks .
We also focus on bringing our bloodlines from other top producers not commonly found here in the western provinces. Thus bringing new bloodlines to our flock.
Quality Starts with Genetics
Our history
Our flock was started many years ago with proven closed flocks of sheep from leading Canadian traditional North Country Cheviot Breeders. We selected some of the best genetics available. Our starter flock gave is the genetic lead time to build on our own genetics quickly.
Our focus is maintaining and building on what the purebred and commercial flock leaders are looking for in a North Country Cheviot. Isle of Skye Cheviots focuses on the Stocky, big framed, big boned traditional type animals. Within our flock, we maintain more than one type of genetic line. Our objective is to maintain different options for our commercial and purebred clientele.
Our lambs are very consistent and the genetics work well together. We have “planted” seed flocks all over Canada and have new clients waiting for their own seed flocks taylored to their requirements. There is a high demand for new small flocks of our North Country Cheviots. Genetic quality of our North Country Cheviot suit 4H kids, commercial clients, hand spinners and more. We ship anywhere in Canada and have new starter flocks from the Pacific to the Atlantic.
North Country Cheviots are a Dual Purpose Breed
Fleece
Traditional North Country Cheviots are a dual purpose breed. We focus on animals that maintain the breed standard qualities. We have strict guidelines on the quality of the fleece when it comes to selecting our breeding animals. Isle of Skye Cheviots are bred for top quality meat AND wool characteristics. Our flock is known to focus on selling small, quality flocks geared toward a growing industry of people wanting to spin or use their own fibre for knitting, crocheting or quilting.
