Our Border collies
These are pictures of Jenny and Wisp. These dogs are the reason we got into Border Collies years ago. Jenny and Wisp are both 13 years old. They are showing their age, but still come for walks and runs with the quad. They are getting a bit slower now but that’s ok. Here are some pictures of them through the years.
About our Breeding program
Generations top quality Genetic selection
Our flock was started many years ago with proven ewes from closed flocks of sheep from leading North Country Cheviot breeders. Those ewes gave us lead time because they were bred from generations of top cut bloodlines. These ewes were purchased from some of the best genetics available in Western Canada. The bloodlines that carried our flock forward in the early yearswere descendants of the Queen Mother’s Longoe Flock. This flock is noted to be traditional and hardy, sought after by commercial and purebred breeders alike in Canada.
Over the years we have culled our flock heavily and have only selected replacement ewe lambs from our top producing ewes. We have found that with our strict breeding program our ewes produce top quality consistent lambs time and time again. We look for superior conformation in our flock along with hardy tough lambs that have top growth and carcass traits.
Maternal traits will always have a high priority in our flock and we continually select our replacements from ewes with an emphasis on optimum growth. Balanced ewes have high fertility, adequate milk, longevity, growth and carcass yield.
Genetic selection in our breeding program has lead to our North Country Cheviots having a high correlation between feed efficiency, growth, and meat yield.
“Fault free practical ewes” has been our motto in better lamb production.
In order to diversify our steady genetic progress from other flocks in our area, we have introduced genetics from closed Eastern with new AI bloodlines from Scotland.
